Job Description

Tasks

  • Consult with other health care professionals to evaluate treatment plans
  • Diagnose any behaviour disorders
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and the patient’s outcomes
  • Examine the behaviour
  • Interview clients, prepare case histories and assess problems
  • Interview patients
  • Record observations
  • Review reports from health care professionals to determine patients’ current and potential functioning levels
  • Supervise other counsellors, social service staff and assistants
  • Write progress reports
  • Prepare a treatment plan for each patient
  • Provide education to clients regarding health promotion and injury prevention, management and treatment
  • Provide therapy
  • Counsel individuals and groups to achieve more effective personal, social and vocational development and adjustment
  • Implement treatment plans
  • Perform administrative tasks
  • Analyze the patient during the treatments
  • Apply psychological theory and principles regarding behaviour and mental processes
  • Develop and implement counselling and intervention programs to assist clients in determining goals and means of attaining them
  • Counsel clients, provide therapy and mediation services, and facilitate group sessions
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Initiate, design and implement specialized therapy programs
  • Follow up results of counselling programs and clients’ adjustment
  • Prepare assessment, progress, follow-up and court reports
  • Identify additional/alternative services and provide referrals
  • Liaise with community agencies or partners, and identify additional or alternative services and provide referrals
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court proceedings
